St. Anne Church

Town: Borgo Valsugana
It is of 17th century origin, but was widely remodeled in the second half of the 18th century, it’s situated in between Degasperi Square and Martiri Square. It was built for the religious order of the Poor Clares, whose monastery stood in the spot where now we see the City Hall.

Todays’ facade is the result of the restorations made in 1847, while the inside, in Rococò style, preserves a valuable cycle of frescos dating back to the second half of the 18th century of the Venetian painter Giovanni Scajaro, student of Tiepolo.

From the originary monastery complex, destroyed in the disastrous fire that devasted the town in 1862, other than the already mentioned small church only the chiostro remains inside the building that today holds the Town Hall (the well curb is venetian and dates back to the XV century).

On the flooring on which the Church stands, which was made in the 90s, we can find a perimeter made out of red stone that has the intention to trace the original one of the building that has faded.

Information: You can visit the church every day from 8.30 am to 11.00 am and from 15.00 to 18.00. For further information contact the Public library of Borgo Valsugana tel. (0039) 0461 7540052
