CHURCH OF HOLY MARY OF THE SNOW

Town: Carzano
This baroque church of the late seventeenth century has an octagonal shape and a sixteenth-century portal, the interior is architecturally harmonious.

The sculptures in the niches of the facade, representing Saints Piero and Paolo, are two precious works by Orazio Marinali, an important sculptor from Vicenza of the second half of the seventeenth century.

The seventeenth-century high altar (1689) by Giacomo and Cristoforo Benedetti is the splendid setting for the sixteenth-century altarpiece of the Madonna della Neve with Saints Battista. The latter, prior to the church, must have been inside a pre-existing votive aedicule.

The church was proclaimed a national monument, in memory of an atrocious battle fought in Carzano village during the First World War, in which the Austrian army defeated the 72nd Battalion of the Bersaglieri; this tragic event is commemorated here with a commemorative plaque.

Information: The church can be visited every day from 7.00 to 19.00.
