Castel Ivano
Castel Ivano: a castle between history and culture
Castel Ivano, dating back to the 12th century, rises majestically above Valsugana, retaining a Gothic charm thanks to a reconstruction in the 16th century. Today it is an important cultural centre hosting events, exhibitions and conferences.
Legend has it that the castle was also the site of a Benedictine or Templar monastery in ancient times. Its current Gothic appearance derives from the 16th-century reconstruction ordered by the Dukes of Austria.
The manor has a peculiar keep with a quadrangular base, on which superimposed traces of the coats of arms of the Scaligeri of Verona and the Da Carrara of Padua are visible. A Gothic stair tower, located near the original entrance, bears the coats of arms of the first Tyrolean captains who took care of the castle.
Still owned by the Staudacher family (1923), it is home to the ‘Castel Ivano Incontri’ cultural centre, which organises important conferences, art exhibitions and international congresses.
