Church of Assunta

Town: Calceranica al Lago

It is a Gothic-Renaissance Church, flanked by the soaring bell tower with a romantic base, Gothic belfry and a Baroque pediment. On the architrave of the main portal an inscription states that the church was built before 1208 and reconsecrated in 1537.

The interior has three naves. The vault has Gothic ribs. The main altar is marble (1749); in the chapel on the right, there is a black and white marble altar (1882); in the niche, a wooden group of the Crucifixion. In the chapel on the left there is a wooden altar with an altarpiece signed by Jacobus Florentinus (1642).

The choir, whose parapet has decorative panels in reliefs of the early nineteenth century, it preserves in an agile and elegant contemporary case, of an empire-style content, the organ of Antonio Callido da Venezia (1805). It is the only one left in Trentino of that organ builder and is almost intact.

In the square behind the church, you can enjoy a splendid view on the lake.
