During your holiday in
Valsugana, it is worth spending some time discovering the
historic centres of the towns, characteristic
villages and
hamlets that are located in the valley, on the slopes of the Lagorai mountain chain and in Tesino.
Definitely worth seeing are the town of
Pergine dominated by its
castle, the town of
Levico Terme lying on the shores of the
lake of the same name and characterised by its renowned
thermal waters, and
Borgo Valsugana, a pretty centre situated on the
Brenta river at the foot of
Castel Telvana.
In the lakes area, a visit to
Caldonazzo and
Calceranica al Lago is a must, as well as to Vignola Falesina and then
Tenna, a town located on the
hill with the same name that
divides the lake of Levico from the lake of Caldonazzo and that in spring, with the blossoming of the apple trees, offers one of the most enchanting landscapes of the season.
Descending from the lakes along the course of the river Brenta and on the mountain slopes we then come across the enchanting villages of
Novaledo with its Tor Quadra, Roncegno Terme surrounded by centuries-old chestnut trees on the
Strada del Castagno (Chestnut Road) leading to
Ronchi Valsugana, Torcegno and Carzano and then on to
Telve and
Telve di Sopra, on the road to the famous
Manghen Pass.
Continuing eastwards,
small, lively towns appear, each with its own evocative history and special corners to be discovered:
Castelnuovo, Ospedaletto and Grigno close to the cycle path and
Scurelle,
Castel Ivano (a municipality that has recently merged with Villa Agnedo, Strigno, Ivano Fracena and Spera) and
Samone.
And finally, there is
the Tesino Plateau: an area elevated above the rest of the Valsugana localities, formed by the municipalities of Bieno, Pieve Tesino, Cinte Tesino and Castello Tesino, and renowned for its
natural environment with its massive
forest heritage, the
granite of Cima D'Asta and ancient folk traditions.
