Paddle fishing in Lake Caldonazzo
Fishing is a very widespread hobby in all the valleys of Trentino and, while in the past it mainly represented a source of supplement to the family diet and income for professional fishermen, today it is practiced mainly for recreational and hobby purposes.
The management of the fish stock is entrusted to the local fishing associations that operate along the streams, rivers and lakes of the Province within the scope of the "Provincial Fishing Law". The law also establishes the fishing periods permitted during the year and the quantities daily and the minimum measures of the fish collection, the individual associations normally reduce times/quantities and measures within this provincial framework.
Within this framework, checker fishing in Lake Caldonazzo stands out. It is practiced on foot, walking along the banks of the lake, dragging trawl nets using long poles.
The most fished species are: royal perch, whitefish, lake trout, tench and pike.
