The Mòcheni Valley

Nestled in the mountains just 20 kilometers from Trento, the Valle dei Mòcheni is known for being a linguistic island of German origin, but it remains in the heart for the extraordinary scenery of nature's changing colors.

A wild and evocative environment to get to know by following itineraries among the meadows and forests, around the dwellings and among the farmsteads, to be covered on foot in relaxing walks that lead to the malghe (shepherd's huts) and refuges, or by venturing on more challenging routes, with the gaze turned to the high peaks of the superb Lagorai mountain range.

The Mòcheni Valley also preserves intact its folklore and gastronomic traditions, evidence of the culture and customs of a population that has managed to preserve its identity not only with holiday rituals, such as the Singing of the Star at Christmas time and the performance of Bètsche on the last day of carnival, but with its love for the environment and the protection of its historical and cultural heritage.

The Mòcheni Valley, a valley that will not disappoint your expectations, today as yesterday when the Austrian writer Robert Musil called it "the enchanted valley." The villages of the Mòcheni Valley are scattered along the two sides: along the right bank of the Fersina River we find Sant'Orsola Terme and Palù del Fersina. Going up the left side, however, we find Frassilongo; in all, they occupy an area of 51 square kilometers.
