Caldonazzo Lake

The Caldonazzo Lake is the largest body of water in Valsugana, the largest lake belonging entirely to Trentino and the only one in the area where water skiing is allowed.

 
Thanks to its location (450 meters above sea level), Lake Caldonazzo is one of the warmest lakes in southern Europe (as is Lake Levico, a few kilometers away).

It covers more than 5 square kilometers and has an average depth of 26.5 meters (maximum depth: 49 meters). Thanks to favorable weather conditions, the lake is normally swimmable as early as the beginning of May until the end of September.


Once again, this year, the beaches of Lake Caldonazzo (S. Cristoforo-Pergine Valsugana, Calceranica, Caldonazzo, Tenna) were reconfirmed with the FEE (Foundation for Environmental Education) Blue Flag, an international award that recognizes environmentally sustainable waters and policies.


Along the shores of the lake there are numerous free beaches and bathing establishments equipped with bars, games room and children's areas. There is also no shortage of clubs and restaurants that enliven summer evenings with good food, music, and entertainment. Not to be missed is the fireworks show fired on the lake, traditionally organized on Ferragosto.


On its shores are the towns of Caldonazzo, Calceranica Al Lago, the hamlet of San Cristoforo al Lago (municipality of Pergine Valsugana) and Tenna. In these localities, the traveler can find a variety of lodging options to spend his or her vacation on the lake: from hotels to vacation apartments, from equipped camping sites to bed and breakfasts, from agritourisms to room rentals.


Lake Caldonazzo presents itself as a paradise for water sports in Trentino: it is possible to practice numerous sports such as water skiing, sailing (also for people with disabilities), swimming, windsurfing, and canoeing.


Numerous sporting events are organized during the summer season, bringing national and international athletes and spectators to Valsugana. Among the events certainly worth mentioning are the races among the "Dragonboat" boats, the swimming middle-distance races, the regattas organized by local associations, and the National Youth Canoe Finals held in September.

Fishing is also a popular sport on Lake Caldonazzo, famous especially for whitefish fishing.


In San Cristoforo, on the shores of Lake Caldonazzo, a "Bau Beach" has been established. Four-legged friends will have an adequate space at their disposal. Both on land and in the water, the use of a leash is mandatory. The dog beach is identified by appropriate signage.
