Rifugio Caldenave
Where the Lagorai porphyry turns to granite (in the Cima d'Asta group) is where you’ll find the Rifugio Caldenave. Rebuilt by the Scurelle District Council out of the remains of an old mountain dairy next to the Malga Caldenave, the refuge - at 1,795 metres above sea level - is a stage on the “via del granito” (the granite trail), a three day walk with stops also at Malga Sorgazza and Rifugio Cima d'Asta. Although its name come from the rock, the trail passes numerous lakes and is a delight for anyone who loves the element water. The Great War was fought here, where unspoilt nature now reigns in the wild environment that typifies the Lagorai chain.
