St. George Church
Built on the main square of Saint Giorgio, the church, which already existed in the 12th century, during the period of the First Crusade during which, legend says, threehundred Tesini took part in, was destroyed three times.
Todays’ appearence dates back to works done in 1937. The Southern Facade preserves two nice portals that date back to the 16th century. On the main prospectus we can notice Alcide and Gianfranco Campestrini’s fresco (1928). On the inside we can find one of the biggest significant cycles of frescos by Carlo Donati (1929).
The precious major altar, with an equestrian statue representing Saint George who is killing the dragon, is a precious artwork of the sculptor Giacomo Cassetti from Vicenza, son-in-law of Oratio Marinali, one of the most prestigious venetian sculptors of the 18th century.
