Museum Mulini (mills) dei Cainàri
In the Cainari area of Castello Tesino, after passing the Brocon Pass in the direction of Canal San Bovo, two ancient mills have recently been renovated.
El mill de sora
Dating back to 1779, it was also a tavern in the past and stopped working after the flood of 1966. This mill will return to grinding, both for educational purposes and for the group of sòrc farmers in the Vanoi and Cismon valleys, who for some years he has been cultivating a local variety of corn - sòrc in dialect - for self-production: the Dorotea variety.
El mill de sot
It has become an exhibition space with displays on water machines, with texts and stories linked to the mill and the figure of the miller.
Furthermore, at el molin de sot, workshops are held for children and teenagers, including Sòrc and surrounding areas, during the summer period. The aim of these activities is to tell the children about the corn supply chain from the field to the grinding of the grain, through the creative use of secondary products, including cobs, leaves and semolina.
The Mills of Ronco Cainari, "out of season" can be visited - for groups of minimum 8 people - on request at the Ecomuseo del Vanoi - tel 0439.719106 - ecomuseo@vanoi.it
From November to April approximately (depending on the season) it is not possible to put them into operation due to problems with water flow and accessibility in case of snow.
