Permanent exhibition of the First World War

Town: Borgo Valsugana
The Permanent Exhibition of the First World War set up inside the former Spagolla Mill, one of the most evocative river corners of the historic center of Borgo in Valsugana and on the Lagorai. This museum is the result of the multi-year commitment of the Historical-Cultural Association of Valsugana Orientale and Tesino which has among its purposes to preserve, study and enhance the material testimonies, bibliographic, archival and photographic relating to the Great War in the area between the Altopiano dei Sette Comuni, the Valsugana and the Lagorai-Cima d'Asta Chain.

Museum itinerary

The exhibition was inaugurated in October 2002 but expanded and radically renewed in its current form at the end of 2005. Is organized in two different but closely connected areas. The first part winds through a large and bright columned room, where the windows alternate with photographic panels and dioramas. Divided into thematic spaces, it gradually introduces the visitor to the drama of conflict.

The evolution of military operations is illustrated with photographic images of the battlefields at high altitude and the destruction suffered by the villages of the valley. Even the contemporary progress of the "art of war" unfolds progressively, ranging from the evolution of the headgear (from the cap to the metal helmet) to the transformations of the combat uniform, from the modernization of individual firearms to the progressive loss of importance of the bayonet and the appearance of the trench dagger.
