Trentino 2060: thinking the present, imagining the future

From 29 June to 2 July 2023 the fifth edition of Trentino2060, the Festival of critical thinking, will be held in Borgo Valsugana. The theme of the 2023 edition will be Future on stand-by?, an opportunity to look back and draw an initial assessment of the path taken so far by our dissemination project.

Since Trentino 2060 was born, a series of dramatic, sudden and unpredictable events have taken place, which have contributed to exacerbating insecurity towards tomorrow, especially among the new generations. The effects of the pandemic, the invasion of Ukraine and the changes we are witnessing even outside Europe give back a different world than the one in which the first edition was held, even if, after all, only four years have passed: the price of energy has reached its historical highs; the inflation rate has never been so high since the eighties; the war – whose concept had even been removed from some Western political visions – has returned to Europe, upsetting the international geopolitical balance. And all this takes place in a context in which the climate crisis is increasingly pressing.

It is precisely for this reason that at Trentino 2060 we will ask ourselves if the future, or rather, our idea of a desirable future, is suffering significant setbacks. In other words, if the future can – in this historical moment – even be said to be paused, on stand-by”.
